Speechless.

Here's the thing: my greatest challenge is that the book I'm writing, on leave, is sometimes hard to write. I compare my challenges with those of others near and far, known and blog-acquainted, and I realize I have not very much to say at all about my life. Things are good. I am happy. Today my burnt-down-rebuilt chapter is making me nauseated but that will go away.

I may be blogging less for a little while. Maybe when I work out whether I have anything real to say.

Taking "leave" would do me in. I get nothing done unless I'm juggling sixteen things at once. How do you think I wrote a 500-page book in 67 days? Of course, fiction is somewhat easier to write. :) I really think that I got through it by having an iron-clad writing routine. I had to work on it every single day, or I was a mess.

Sending you lots of writing mojo!

Thanks, Fie. I'm actually doing okay mojo-wise. I have come to the zen point where I accept, and almost enjoy, the intractable days. I guess I'm just realizing that my life may actually be far too boring to blog about.

It's a bit related to the conversation not long ago at Flavia's, about high-drama film versions of the academic life and how boring a film would be if it actually depicted academic life.

Ah - that's okay. The really, really interesting things about my life are things that even I wouldn't dare to blog about. And I write about *almost* everything. I kind of feel like if I blog about every deep dark thing, then I won't be able to write books about them later. And believe me, I'll be writing more books. Next topic? My mom's family. Ye gads...

Yet, they DO make movies out of MY academic life!

You are right. Endless hours of grading and/or staring at a computer screen do not sexy movies make.
