Elegy
Who would I show it to?

Portrait of Clara (as a chemist)

Meanwhile the mind, from pleasure less,
Withdraws into its happiness:
The mind, that ocean where each kind
Does straight its own resemblance find;
Yet it creates, transcending these,
Far other worlds, and other seas;
Annihilating all that's made
To a green thought in a green shade.
Andrew Marvell, "The Garden" 41-48

Ahem. Am I the only person whose immediate interpretation of this poem is dirty?
LOL!
Well, looks like I'll never again be able to read this one as an expression of the futility of language in the face of human loss.
