Portrait of Clara (as a chemist)

Meanwhile the mind, from pleasure less,
Withdraws into its happiness:
The mind, that ocean where each kind
Does straight its own resemblance find;
Yet it creates, transcending these,
Far other worlds, and other seas;
Annihilating all that's made
To a green thought in a green shade.
Andrew Marvell, "The Garden" 41-48

She is kind of the bomb, don't you think? I envy her the title of one of her books--Sad Little Breathing Machine. In fact, sometimes I am thinking of a poem and I kind of edge up to that idea and then I think, Damn you, Matthea Harvey.
i have the opposite thing: i was in a certain graduate program with her, and kept muttering to myself "how does she keep thinking, seemingly effortlessly, of things i haven't considered before?" i still get that.
